The museum,
since January 2014,
is closed for critical structure problems, waiting the beginning of its restoration.
The redevelopment of the roman civilization museum is a great topic for its current bad conditions. The project is about modifying the entire building as well as the surrounding area. Most important innovation is the insert of main and back gates allowing night closure of the museum. In this way the inner square can be used as a scenario for night events instead of the current use as an improper parking.
On the right side of the square the main entrance will be indicated to the visitors by a vertical banner. The entry hall is redesigned with a round ticket office in the middle of the space. The bar and bookshop has been added on the backside of the building reusing some rooms unused today. The thematic and chronological tours are modified so they will never more overcross.
The skylights are made with false ceiling and are shaped in a way to diffuse the light inside the room, for a better view of the roman sculpture reproductions, and allowing the electric and air conditioned system passes. On the roof will be placed solar panels for green electricity production reducing maintenance costs.
